December is expensive. But that’s okay, because January is the month of lentils and sobriety. And, because everyone is going vegan and giving up booze, the FOMO factor is pretty low.
That said, 31 days is a long time. My usual strategy in January is to only treat myself to nights out if there’s some sort of fabulous bargain on offer, like a soft launch. God knows why any restaurant launches in January, but sometimes they do, and the first of this year’s crop is modern crêperie and bar L’ami Malo. There’s 50% off food between 16th and 27th January, and the menu is overseen by head chef Williams Guillemot, formerly of the wonderful Clos Maggiore in Covent Garden.
The menu includes traditional Breton buckwheat galettes (gluten-free!) filled with combinations such as confit duck leg with caramelised pear and red wine jus and served as maki-style rolls. The 50% discount only applies to tables booked in advance for lunch or dinner, so make a reservation here.
