Don’t let the pretty café façade fool you, there’s a lot more to The Social Pantry than meets the eye.

I hadn’t seen James 2 in ages. He’d moved out last year to pursue a doomed romance, and, after a very dramatic few months, had ended up living in Hoxton. I’d last seen him at his 27th birthday party a couple of months ago, though that barely counted as I was irretrievably off my noggin […]

I know I’ve been banging on a lot about breakfast lately, but it really is the most important meal of the day. Besides, I’m a big fan of eating breakfast out in London. You get your big fancy meal at the beginning of the day, when you’ll burn it off best; it’s cheaper than dinner; and […]

I bought my first ring from East London designer Kat&Bee last year, and it’s had a lot of wear. I can get quite severe dermatitis on my hands and it can flare up pretty gruesomely sometimes (think Orlando’s dad in the first Pirates of the Caribbean), so Kat&Bee’s lightweight designs are perfect for me. While Googling their site […]

We needed to steel ourselves for the tedious task of buying Mike a new suit. My flatmate James 2 had given us strict instructions, but Mike was completely clueless about what he wanted (because he is a man), and so was I (because I am not a man). We ended up at The Black Penny, the newish […]

I’m not entirely sure how it happened, but daytime drinking has suddenly become A Thing. Even in my student days, when drinking was taken almost as seriously as studying, it was considered bad form to start preparing the bathtub punchbowl until at least 5pm.
I am a horrible morning person. I am actually writing this from the edge of my bed at the crack of dawn just so I could really capture things in medias res, and the upshot is that I am deeply regretting taking up the #EarlyBirdChallenge and making a 7am reservation at Duck and Waffle, London’s highest […]

L’ETO Caffé is a small London-based chain of fancy bruncheries that seems intent on replicating the patisseries across the Channel: the food is delicious, the pastries are beautiful, and the staff are among some of the rudest and least attentive I’ve ever encountered.
