Converting a carnivore at The Gate
“Ooh, they do fries,” said Mike, brightening up slightly as a plate of polenta chips went by, before being immediately distracted by a Nigel Farage lookalike at the bar.

You may have read my post on City Dash, a large-scale urban wide game that tickled my housemates and I so much we did it four times in as many months. It involves running around bits of the city solving cryptic clues and evading guards in high-vis, sort of like a slightly more grown-up version of 40-40 Homes. […]

The mouse stunk. It was lying on a sheet of newspaper, and I was going to stuff it. If all went well, it would be posed in a whimsical position with a miniature top hat, but right now it was just a piece of rotting meat. Imagine leaving a raw chicken breast out for a […]

And, regardless of its founders’ woeful grasp of basic SEO principles, it makes the best pancakes I have ever had, anywhere. Brace yourselves; I’ve got photos.

So while everyone genuinely does love a lie-in and all-day eggs, people who bang on about how much they simply love brunch always come across as…you know. Tossers. That said, if you’re going to get on board with the most pretentious meal of the day, you may as well do it right. Islington’s Upper Street is to brunch […]

I love wine. A decentish bottle is the cheapest, most sure-fire way to get completely and utterly wankered before a big night out, right? But apparently there’s this thing where you actually let the stuff slosh around on your tongue for a bit before sending it down to your long-suffering liver for processing. ‘Tasting’, I […]
